Block Exemption

What is Block Exemption?

You may have heard of the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation (MVBER). But what does it mean for you as a vehicle owner in Oxfordshire?

At D&A Automotive in Witney, we keep up-to-date with motor trade laws so you know how they affect your vehicle, your rights, and your wallet. Here’s what you need to know.

What Does Block Exemption Mean?

Historically, vehicle manufacturers had a monopoly on servicing and repairs. If you went to an independent garage, you risked losing your warranty, and dealers often charged more.

This changed in 2003 with the introduction of MVBER, which gave motorists the right to use any qualified garage, not just manufacturer dealerships, without affecting their warranty.

Why Block Exemption is Important

  • Freedom of choice – You can use the garage of your choice, including trusted local independents like D&A Automotive.
  • Fair prices – Independent garages typically charge less than dealerships.
  • Same standards – We have access to the same technical information and tools as manufacturers
  • Quality parts – We always use genuine, manufacturer-approved parts, keeping your vehicle safe and your warranty intact.

When the UK left the EU, MVBER became UK law, now replaced by the almost identical Motor Vehicle Agreements Block Exemption Order 2023 (MVBEO), which runs until 2029.

What This Means for You

You’re free to use a garage of your choice for servicing and repairs, whilst still protecting your warranty and maintaining your vehicle in accordance with manufacturer standards.

By choosing independents like D&A Automotive, you’ll often get better value, more personalised service, and the chance to support a local business. We appreciate every customer who chooses us.
