Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device that traps soot from your diesel engine’s exhaust. To comply with exhaust emission standards, all diesel cars made after 2009 have been fitted with a DPF, and many older models have them too.
These filters can reduce soot by up to 80%, which in turn lowers emissions. Over time, DPF filters can become blocked, causing vehicle performance issues and potentially costly repairs. That’s where D&A Automotive comes in. Our DPF cleaning system keeps your filter clear, saving you time, money, and hassle.
How DPF Cleaning Systems Work
Diesel Particulate Filters must be maintained and emptied regularly. Ideally, the car does this automatically through a process called regeneration, where soot is burned off at high temperatures, leaving a small amount of ash residue.
The DPF process works on longer journeys where the speed is more constant and the temperatures in the exhaust are higher, but many day-to-day journeys are too short for the regeneration to complete, causing the DPF to become blocked.
When regeneration doesn’t complete, the engine injects extra fuel to try to burn off the soot. Some of this fuel can leak into the oil sump, causing oil quality to deteriorate and the oil level to rise, prompting your vehicle to switch into restricted performance mode to protect the engine, and a warning light to appear on your dashboard.
At D&A Automotive, we thoroughly clean and regenerate your DPF without removing it from your vehicle or replacing the entire unit. Cleaning the system this way is cheaper and faster, getting you back on the road quickly and safely.
